BRAVEHEART THE CALF shares more than just a name with the 13th Century Scottish warrior who died trying to free his homeland from British rule.
Like William Wallace, made famous by Mel Gibson in the movie of the same name, Braveheart the calf is a fighter with true Scottish blood.
As well, he is easily the cutest and fluffiest calf in Byron Bay.
A Scottish highland breed, Braveheart was born at The Farm at Byron but almost died after his mother abandoned him and the herd rejected him.
The youngster spent more than 24 hours alone in the furthest paddock on The Farm until he was found by staff who initially mistook him for an injured kangaroo.
He was covered in ticks and so weak they feared he would not survive.
General manager Johnson ‘Johno’ Hunter told the Gold Coast Bulletin it had been all hands on deck to make sure the calf survived.
The first task was bath to rid him of about 50 ticks and other parasites that were slowly poisoning him.
They then had to buy enough milk formula to be able feed the baby animal every four hours for the first few days and then every eight hours after that.
