Byron Second Grade Cricket 2019 Grand Final Win

THE BYRON Bay Cellars Second Grade won their 2018-19 Grand Final in Coastal League.

Playing at Rabjones Oval, Murwillumbah, our side won the toss and sent the season’s Minor Premiers, Lennox Head, in to bat.

This proved to be a great move as we got them all out for 90 runs off 27 and a half overs.

Levi Shouldice took 4 wickets for 26 runs after Brady Fuhrmann (1/11) and Toby Schott (1/12) removed both their openers with 8 runs on the board.

Greg Daniels is with Captain Matt Irwin holding the trophies

A brace of wickets for our other two bowlers, George Worthington (2/9) and Lachlan Whiteford (2/29) ably assisted the Bay’s cause with the final four Pirates wickets falling for 3 runs scored.

A great effort in the field for our third-placed team set up a win and our bats achieved the win in the 17th over for the loss of 4 wickets.

Mitch Loane ended up with 30 n.o. following Skipper Matt Irwin scoring 24 runs and this combination was the key to the rapid conclusion of the big event.

Toby Schott and Michael Hughes opened the batting with Lennox throwing everything at them but they scored 10 and six runs respectively to see off the attack.

Owen Delian was unluckily run-out for 4 runs in at #3 and Ryan McGuiness was there at the end on 9 not out.

A splendid result especially after last season’s washed out Final which resulted in us getting a shared Major Premier title. This one was earned fair and square and is a credit to all involved. Go the Bay !!
