A PETITION has been launched by a Byron Bay local, directed at the Byron Shire Council Mayor Simon Richardson, and challenging Council’s decision to close Seven Mile Beach Road to the public.
Byron resident Stephen Booth says the petition must have resonated with the community, because there were 300 signatures on board in less than three hours.
UPDATE 8 AM THURSDAY 14 — 2238 SIGNATURES
Stephen says, “I can very happily report that it took exactly 2 hours and 15 minutes to get 300 signatures to challenge the new parking restrictions.

“That is 100 times the number of residents claimed to be affected by Council’s Shannon Burt. In just 135 minutes.”
The petition calls for the fait accompli Council has forced onto the community to be reversed.
Council has deployed boulders and over 100 signs to prevent parking on Seven Mile Beach Road
“Byron Shire Council have removed public parking at Seven Mile Beach as part of their management approach to address issues such as illegal camping, dust, waste and traffic congestion, by erecting No Parking Signs and large boulders that in effect removes all public parking to Seven Mile Beach.
This was formulated following extensive consultation with landholders along Seven Mile Beach Road, but not the broader community. If the same approach is applied across the length of Seven Mile Beach, access to Whites Beach, Brays Beach, Kings Beach, and Broken Head Nature Reserve will also be impacted.
As residents of the greater community, we feel it is reasonable to provide some public parking for the majority of us who love these beaches and the delicate environment, and use these areas with respect. If the notion is passed, it sets up a regulatory culture for the remaining areas of the road and potentially other areas in the Shire.
So what would it mean to you if all parking was removed and access to these beaches restricted? How would you, your family, friends and guests enjoy these beautiful beaches?
The only way we can change this is to gain enough objections from the broader community. Please stand with us and sign our petition to save and regain public parking along Seven Mile Beach Road.
We have currently lost parking at Seven Mile Beach and we want it back!
