BYRON SHIRE surfing legend, Mark “Mono” Stewart has arrived with the Australian Team in La Jolla, California, home of the 2017 Stance ISA World Adaptive Surfing Championship.
The Australian team is part of a record-breaking 109 contestants from 26 countries who will take part in the championship event, shattering the record of 77 athletes from 21 countries that was set in 2016.
On Wednesday, November 29th the traditional Opening Ceremony kicked off the competition that is set to run through December 3rd at La Jolla Shores beach in California.

The competitors took part in the Parade of Nations and the Sands of the World Ceremony, where a representative from each nation poured sand into a container to symbolise the peaceful gathering of nations through Adaptive Surfing.
All of Byron have their fingers crossed Mono can make it a clean sweep and emerge from the competition as World Champ for the third time in a row.
