VOICE of BYRON regular, Kerry McDonald Baunach, shared these images from a very successful inaugural Japanese Festival held Sunday 26 November at the Byron Bay Surf Club.
Kerry says, “The Japanese Festival was held at the Surf Club Byron Bay.
“There was a wealth of Japanese food, a tea ceremony and lots of activity, with singing, clapping, whistles and drumming.”

Organiser Mayu Akiba told The Echo in an article they ran about the festival that the festival was free and open to the community.
She said the idea was to create a free community event designed to bring a Japanese-style festival to Byron Bay.
