VOICE of BYRON regular, Mike Watterson, shared his opinion of the best use of the old Byron District Hospital on NSW MP Tamara Smith’s Facebook Page, and got an encouraging response.
Tamara’s posted “I asked the Minister for Health for a commitment to not sell the old Byron Hospital site to private interests…”
In response, Mike asked, “If the Government were to sell the site, would it not be a progressive step to allocate some or all of the proceeds to establishing an operating theatre in the new Byron Central Hospital?

“It’s time to challenge the syndrome that all health-related activities automatically must go to Lismore.
“With potential fog and flood issues related to the Westpac helicopter base in Lismore, maybe it could also be relocated to Byron Central Hospital.
“My loose understanding is that there is a considerable “leakage” of patients from the Byron/Brunswick region to “Tweed/Gold Coast medical facilities, rather than going to Lismore.
“Obviously the Byron Central Hospital could make those long trips up the coast unnecessary.”
Tamara “Liked” Mike’s comment, indicating a positive reaction to his idea.
Agree with Mikes suggestion, i personally have taken Family members to Tweed Hospital 4 times in 3 months,i dont bother going to Byron as the first two incidents we sat in the waiting room for hours and got sent to Tweed anyway. The Tweed waiting room seats are more comfortable, especially after a couple of hours.
