Urgent Schoolies Call-Out to Byron Bay Community

  • Post category:Byron Bay

VOICE of BYRON regular, Nicqui Yazdi, shared an urgent call-out to the Byron Bay community from Byron Schoolies Safety Response.

Nicqui says, “As Police the world over introduce new counter-terrorism measures, the Byron Schoolies Safety Response has been requested to come up with a prototype for temporary barriers for large-scale community events in Byron, to ensure that this activity will be secure from potential vehicle-born attacks.

“Meeting with Police and Council we determined that the easiest way to implement this in 2017, would be to use vehicles.

“This is a first for Byron Bay, however there will also be measures in place for New Year’s Eve this year too.

“We are seeking assistance from the community, and any local businesses, who may own or use shuttle bus style vehicles or vans, or buses, who may be able to donate their vehicles ONLY to be parked stationary around the carpark perimeter of Main Beach park, from 7pm-1am (although they can be left overnight) from Friday Nov 24 to Sat Dec 2.

“They would not be required during the day.

“We are seeking commitments from community-minded vehicle owners to assist to donate, deliver and collect their vehicles over this eight-day period.

“You are also welcome to volunteer for the Schoolies HUB, which would also allow you to watch over your own vehicles and become part of the response in a very meaningful way.”
