IN A DISPLAY of political unity which is so rare these days, Federal, NSW State and Byron local Labor party people have declared formally their opposition to the West Byron development.

Byron Shire Councillor Paul Spooner announced a joint statement released yesterday July 12 by NSW Labor Leader Luke Foley, Shadow Minister for the North Coast Walt Secord and Federal Richmond MP Justine Elliot.

They said the mega-development would result in thousands of residents pouring in and out of Byron Shire in general, and Byron Bay in particular.

This while Byron Bay is bucking already under overstretched infrastructure.

Mr Foley, Mr Secord and Ms Elliot called on the NSW Government to drop the plan and put an end to uncertainty which has continued for more then four years.

Mr Foley said the ball is now squarelt in the NSW Government’s court now.

“In fact, the NSW Government is allowing the development to creep forward,” Mr Foley said.

“This is the last thing Byron Bay needs.”
