AN ANGRY group of Byron Bay locals had their eyes opened about the proposed West Byron development last night Mon July 3 at the Byron Bay Community Centre.
The application currently being assessed by Council is for 290 of up to 1,100 allotments and is currently on exhibition until July 12, 2017.
The Byron Residents’ Group hosted the event, announcing their position clearly on their Facebook page.
“The development application for West Byron’s first suburban subdivision is on exhibition until 12 July. It is what we feared – cheek by jowl suburbia which obliterates threatened species habitat, and that is just the beginning of what is wrong with it.
If you care about the future of Byron you need to be making a submission in objection.
Byron Bay resident Ric Wilson attended the meeting.
“Just attended this meeting. What an eye opener. This development has the capacity to change the face of Byron Bay as we know it irreversibly,” says Ric.
“You have until the 12th July to table your submission opposing this atrocious development.
“There is intended to be 3 metres of fill put on this site, as well as a 3 metre noise abatement wall along Ewingsdale Road, among other things.
“If you love Byron Bay then get your submissions in.”
Submissions should be made in writing and addressed to the General Manager, Byron Shire Council, PO Box 219 Mullumbimby 2482 or sent by email to submissions@byron.nsw.gov.au. Emailed submissions to this address only will be acknowledged.
