Byron Shire Parking Fees to Increase by 33% in 2017-18

A CHARGES AND Fees document on Byron Shire Council’s website reveals Byron Shire visitors and residents not purchasing an annual exemption will be slugged a massive 33% increase in parking fees for the year 2017-18.

The current cost per hour has been increased from $3 per hour to $4 per hour.

The four-hour pay parking zones fee is capped at $12 per stay with the exception of all day parking in Butler Street Reserve Pay Parking Area which is capped at $20.

Annual parking permits still have to be paid up front, but will increase from $50 to $55 but the administrative handling fees will increase by a third from %15 to $20.

Butler Street Special Event Parking

Event organisers for the Butler Street Reserve have two pay parking options. In the first, the event organiser pays $1820 for the whole area, previously free of charge.

The second option has event organisers paying $200 for metre code changes. This was also previously free.

Then event attendees pay a full-day parking rate of $10 per vehicle.

Council displayed its Draft Fees and Charges for 2017-18 on its website from 21 April to 25 May 2017, then passed the charges at its recent meeting.

Voice of Byron is unable to find any public notice announcing the draft charges and calling for comments.
