Byron Shire Weather Update

BYRON SHIRE Council crews continued filling potholes as they appeared until close of business Tuesday June 13.

Council’s director of infrastructure services, Phil Holloway said the saturated ground has seen many potholes appear within the Shire and staff were attending those considered hazardous first.

However, he cautioned that pothole filling was only a temporary fix and for the best result, it should be done in dry weather.  With additional heavy rain downpours the potholes may reappear.

Mr Holloway anticipated that it could take several weeks for road crews to fill all potholes within the Shire.

Motorists are requested to phone the depot on 6685 9300 between 8am and 4pm to report concerns.  You can also use the app Snap, Send, Solve to report information to council.

Mr Holloway said that further investigations today at Orana and Coomburra Roads in Ocean Shores had shown that the temporary seal placed on Friday in an attempt to help protect the road construction works during the weather event, had unfortunately scoured away during the heavy rainfall and caused sediment runoff.

Sewerage pump stations are working at capacity and at this stage there have been no reported overflows.

The flood pump at South Golden Beach is switching on and removing water when required and staff have been monitoring its performance.

Council roads staff are continuing to assess known localised flooding locations, investigating enquiries from the public, collecting data about road closures.

Dear Mr Holloway. Council has not filled one single pothole in Phillip Street South Golden Beach in the 8 months I have been here. Looking forward to all potholes being being repaired in a couple of weeks. Ha ha
