A 31-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted by an unknown male on Belongil Beach about 5pm on Monday.
The woman was able to escape and ran to a hotel on Byron Bay’s main street where staff assisted her and notified police. She has since been taken to Byron Bay Hospital.
The attacker is thought to be aged in his 20s with a bald or shaved head.
He was wearing a white tank top with a Buddhist motif on the back, black shorts and runners, and was carrying a handmade satchel-type black bag with brown stripes.
