FROM VoB KWIMABB: Surfing & Camping at Byron Bay’s Pass in the 1960s

  • Post category:Byron Bay
Our tent at The Pass. Cliffy Chapman would wake us up early to trade junk he’d picked up for cigarettes.

Voice of Byron and KWIMABB regular, John (San Juan Surfboards) Wright, found these really great shots of the Bay in the 1960s.

John says, “Hi John, I lived in Byron & Lennox Head for some 35 years.

“I worked at San Juan Surfboards in the early ’70s. I now live in Queensland.

“Here are a couple of old photos from early surfing trips to Byron.”

Early ’60s photo taken from near the old surf club. We travelled up from Sydney and camped at The Pass. That’s our tent in the background. Uncrowded, beautiful. My how things have changed!
