Former Byron Bay Man Gets Bail on 5 Fraud Charges

FORMER LONG-TIME Byron Bay resident, university lecturer Dr Roger Munro was released bail on five fraud charges he faced in Southport Magistrates Court on March 17.

Dr Munro was arrested by Queensland Police officers and brought before the Southport Magistrates Court, where he was formally charged with five counts of fraud under s408C of the Queensland Criminal Code, following an ASIC investigation.  Each charge carries a maximum period of imprisonment of 12 years.

Dr Munro was released on conditional bail to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 15 May 2017.

His bail conditions include that he surrenders his passport, that he is to have no contact with certain prosecution witnesses and that he not leave Australia nor approach any point of international departure.

The matter is being prosecuted by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
