EIGHT-HUNDRED metres of The Esplanade and River Street in New Brighton are being upgraded.
The road reconstruction and kerb and gutter works commenced on Monday 30 January 2017 and will run for about three weeks, weather permitting.
The worksite starts at the intersection of Strand Ave and The Esplanade and continues to the end of River Street at the intersection of Ocean Avenue.
Motorists can expect delays while the essential works are underway and the New Brighton Farmers’ Markets should be accessed via Shara Boulevard.
The road upgrade is being funded from part proceeds of the sale of the former ‘Roundhouse’ site.
Works include:
- Kerb and gutter
- Stormwater upgrade
- Road reconstruction and asphalt
The works will be done in the following stages:
Stage 1 – Kerb and gutter and stormwater upgrade
Works will commence on Monday 30 January 2017 for approximately five working days, weather permitting. Works will be conducted under traffic control conditions with alternating one lane traffic flow. Please allow for extra travel time as delays are expected.
Stage 2 – Road Reconstruction and Asphalt Wearing Surface
Works will commence on Monday 6 February to Friday 17 February, weather permitting. Works will be conducted under traffic control conditions with alternating one lane traffic flow. Due to heavy machine in use, there will be major delays for people wanting to travel on the Esplanade from 6 February on wards.
Alternative access routes are:
- Ocean Shores via Orana Road and Rajah Road
- South Golden Beach via Shara Boulevard
- New Brighton shops, sports field and Farmers Market via Shara Boulevard
