REPORTS ONLINE have announced the passing of Paul Barrett, with tributes flowing on social media from the local creative and music groups, and the general community.

Better known as the leader and front man of the Samba Blisstas, Paul Barrett is well known locally for his creative input, leadership and commitment to the drumming group.

The news broke at noon online on Mr Barrett’s Facebook page, when a post reading “Bongos Paul. Much loved and remembered by we 3 sisters Heather, Lindy LeCornu and Susan Carn” was posted by Lindy LeCornu, from Victor Harbour, South Australia.

Mr Barrett has been battling with a cardiac condition since November, according to a fundraising page set up to help with the cost of his treatment at a Gold Coast Cardiology Unit.

The Samba Blisstas are due to perform again at The Rails in Byron Bay on January 26 from 4 pm.

If you knew Mr Barrett and you would like to be part of a bigger tribute about the man who put the sound of the carnival in the local soundscape, feel free to write a note in the comments below.

sorry sad to hear of Pauls passing..the blisters were his life & he was a very talented musician..being in the blisters was an experience like no other. We use to drum out of KinKingscliff Bowls club, we’d have many a patron listening to the drumming. It was an amazing time & thank Paul for giving me the opportunity

Such sad news…. I was in the Samba Blista’s for 5 years in Paul’s early days in Byron. Once the drums bite you, that’s it, you’ve got a love for the drums, the rythum, the dancing…..So many performances, so many new friends, & Paul’s expertise in keeping our motley crew together. I have wonderful memories from my time with the Blista’s, may Paul’s spirit fly high, he will be sorely missed 😢

So very sad to hear of Paul’s passing. Many of us have fabulous memories of being in the Samba Blisstas over the years and feeling the excitement of being drawn into the infectious rhythm, colour and movement Paul created. There was nothing better than working hard at getting ready for an event, dressing up and feeling the crowds being moved by the sounds and spectacles we helped create. Thankyou Paul for giving so many of us the Samba love ❤️
