A MAN, whose body was found floating in water at Byron Bay last month, has been identified.

Around 4 pm on Wednesday 28 December, a woman was swimming in waters at Belongil Beach when she noticed a man’s body in the water.

With the help of another swimmer, the man was pulled to shore, however he could not be revived.

The 64-year-old from Kyogle, about 90 km inland from Byron Bay, was identified today after police spent a week appealing to the public.

He was one of 18 people to have died while swimming in NSW since Christmas Day.
