VOICE OF BYRON and KWIMABB regular, Geoff Bensley, reckons there’s gotta be a better name for the Senior Cits’ Hall than naming it after the street it’s in.
He didn’t say calling it Wright Hall would cover FOUR separate, unrelated and legendary clans of Byron Bay Wrights, but he did share his own thoughts.
Geoff says, “Regarding the name change for the hall in Marvel Street near Feros Care in Marvel Street.
“Can anybody think of a more imaginative name?
“For Voice of Byron readers’ information: The first hall in Cavanbah was named Lincoln Hall (Fletcher Street) by David Jarman (an American and first permanent white settler).
“I presume he named it after the U.S president Abraham Lincoln (assassinated) who was in office between 1861-65.”
So pleased to hear community discussion about proposed name change to MARVELL HALL which was submitted to BSC by the Byron Bay Senior Citizens Hall committee.
Marvell St was named after the poet Andrew Marvell who wrote some significant poems about ageing; …Life’s too short .. go and enjoy the pleasures of life now, was his message! very appropriate for our active, involved , vital Byron seniors, don’t you think ?
