Voice of Byron regular, past Byron Shire Councillor Diane Woods, has a few words about the current state of things in the Shire.

Diane says, “I am sorry for all the residents in Byron who have to live with the fact that their council is now going to have to spend mega thousands of dollars to pursue another version of the Rural Settlement Strategy.

“I also hear that the CZMP is coming back on the spurious claim by the incompetent State Government that the sand nourishment section of the plan needs to be costed.

“As this was an adaptive plan, with sand nourishment being the last possible component which may never be needed and if so, 20-30-50 years away, then what is the point of costing it now.

“It appears that the State Government doesn’t give 2 hoots what happens in Byron and is happy to waste the rate payers money just to keep the Greens happy and to try and claw back some votes.

“Or do they want Byron to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars so that the council will not be fit for the future and will be open to amalgamation.

“Either way, Byron is going down the path of wasting money once again under the Green majority and unfortunately the poor rate payers will be funding the waste and looking at massive increases in their rates.

“I am not happy to be in an area where over-development is happening, but I would be less happy to have remained in Byron and seen the destruction to the infrastructure at the cost of ideological ideas and complete incompetence towards financial management.”

Not sure why you are finding it hard to let go of the flick-whip Diane.
You have retired from a less than stirling stint in local governance.
Let those who were voted in get on with the job.
