BYRON BAY mum Sara Connor’s legal challenge to the charges she faces has been thrown out of court by judges in the Denpasar District Court, who ordered the trial to go ahead with witnesses.
Lawyers defending Sara against murder charges relating to the death of Balinese policeman Wayan Sudarsa had argued Sara should have been charged with eliminating evidence or even that she should have been released with no charges.
Sara has told judges hearing her murder trial “I am innocent” after learning that the case on charges of murdering a police officer will go ahead.
After the short hearing Judges asked Sara if she had any response to the decision: “I am innocent”.
She has previously protested her innocence, telling the court, on the first day of her trial, that she was innocent as well.
Sara was supported at court by her brother David, who has arrived in Bali from Italy and her friend Ambra Bertoldi.
Judge Made Pasek, in reading out the decision, said: “Declare the objection from lawyer of defendant Sara Connor cannot be accepted. Second, instruct the prosecutor to continue the examination of the case of defendant Sara Connor.”
Connor’s lawyer Erwin Siregar told the court the lawyers would appeal the decision but would do this while the rest of the trial proceeds.
