WHEN A three-metre diamond python decided to make a meal of their labradoodle puppy, the Korff family didn’t hesitate to take on the snake armed only with a broom, a beanbag and their bare hands.
The family knew the snake was on their Coopers Shoot property in the Byron hinterland and had even nicknamed him “Matt”.
But the friendship was over when he grabbed Bailey, the four-month-old puppy, who had been taking a nap on his bed on the front deck.
“There were godawful screams and I ran out to find Bailey in his bed with Matt completely wrapped around him — only his head was sticking out,” mother Annie Korff said.
After a tense struggle, daughter Stephanie unraveled the snake from around the dog, and Baily was safe.
