FORMER BYRON BAY girl, Emma Wright’s successful career as an artist continued at the 2016 Southern Cross University BVA Graduate Exhibition.
Emma’s graduate exhibit, titled Projections, successfully leads the viewer through what Emma calls “a virtual reality in 2D”.
Emma described what her exhibit is about: “”We view the world from the inside out; our paradigms shape who we are, creating personal truths through which we view, and interpret, everything around us.
“Our brains rely on more than our eyes to complete the world; rather, they anticipate what we will see or hear based on past experience.
“As part of my series, I exploited this psychological characteristic, using elements of the uncanny along with ambiguous, incomplete figures to compel the viewer to confront the spaces of uncertainty and find their own meaning.
“As such, the images are constantly changing and therefore unique, dependent entirely on the viewer’s own perspective.
“The fragmented figures are less about breaking the body apart as they are about denying wholeness until the viewer provides an imagined conclusion.”
“Why should things be easy to understand? The puzzle often turns out to be more beautiful than the solution,” she said.
Emma, formerly the graphic designer for the Summerland Credit Union, also designed the catalogue for the Exhibition, receiving high praise during the awards section of opening night, November 11.
She was delighted to have already sold 9 of her 68 works on opening night
