THE TEENAGE surfer bitten by a shark yesterday off Broken Head, Byron Bay, has aged dramatically since the attack.
Various media outlets yesterday reported the victim was a teenager before being bitten, but the media later in the day reported it was 36 year old Jade Fitzpatrick.
Byron local Flake Flambe Chef, Amble Sloli reckons this may well be a previously unrecognised feature of being bitten by a shark.
“It’s entirely possible being bitten could age someone rapidly,” she said.
“Just like what happened yesterday.”
The attack, the seventh in the Byron-Ballina region since the start of last year and the third in a month, comes as the Baird government announced a timeframe for a move toward installing shark nets in the region.
Whether he aged rapidly or not, Jade said he is “all good” after being stitched up at hospital.
