AT AROUND 3am today, Saturday 27 August, a vehicle ran off Bangalow Main Street onto the footpath, damaging shops and wiping out three poles.
The resulting recovery operation blocked Main Street for some hours, resulting in heavy disruption of today’s Bangalow Farmers’ Markets.
The vehicle, a dark blue tray back utility, came to rest in front of Bangalow Pharmacy and Elders Real Estate.
Bangalow Pharmacy escaped any damage to their shop front but Elders Real Estate next door wasn’t so lucky, sustaining shattered glass and some structural damage to their entry.
The vehicle was removed by Simmo’s Towing Service and the local SES guys did a sterling job cleaning up the mess.
Police were tight-lipped about what exactly happened, but rumours doing the rounds included the driver falling to sleep at the wheel.
Voice of Byron was lucky enough to have Shire Deputy Mayor Paul Spooner on the scene. The photos are his, for which VoB is very appreciative.
